Homegrown Heartache

Homegrown Heartache

I house
Rattled bones
Beneath coursing rapids
Of endless fret

Coiled
In uselessness
Shedding away
Every fiber
Of strength I carry

A quiver
With bruised
And battered nerves
Shell shocked and mute
Above the placid, seas of home

The kettle foams
From inside
My hungry girth
Scorching, the valor I cage

Charred
To fleeing ashes
Scattered by wind
By the callousness
Of precious time
