I could have been
Inwoven in shadows
Left frozen in place
In the folds of my bed
But it was not to be
I was hoisted awake
With fire-plagued lungs
In heaving distress
It was not to be
Denial was masterful
Merciful and swift
And it salvaged my all
Every morsel and scrap
I both cherish and fear
It simply
Could not be
