Lost Landmarks

Lost Landmarks

I remember
The open plains
Racing away
From the passenger window

How Texas rambled
For ages and ages,
Before we slowly simmered
In Louisiana’s stewpot

Past Mobile
And her unmet embrace
Through to Georgia’s faint screams
Within the fires of autumn

I recall the warp speed
Of her heroic son
The rush and the landing,
But so little
Of the worlds in between
