As Far As I Can See

As Far As I Can See

Where to when the rivers run dry
And their fearsome anger
Is banished
To the balmy regions of a dream?

I’m drawn to the east
To the ivory sands
Of an ancestral home,
To a love unrequited

To the frozen north
Where an undaunted trail
Weaves through the red forests
Yielding solace at last

In the south I’ll be remade
Drifting aimless,
Unknown
Living humble and spare
As I’m withered by time

Nothing gleams out west
Where the currents wage war
In their starving abyss
As far as I can see
