Alive

One more moment of silence
And he would’ve sailed on
Shedding all of his strength
His fear-ridden skin

But he lunged in defiance
Into midnight’s reign,
While greedily gasping,
Clamoring for breath

Or was it all a dream?
A consoling tall tale
For his hollowed out bones
And his earth-bound frame
