The Blanket Over the Fire

The Blanket Over the Fire

Morning falls like a grey woolen blanket

Smothering the city,

Never reeling away

To let the lights die out

~

Stranded in the heart of autumn

On our isles of comfort

Shadows race into the frayed daybreak

Calling backwards

~

Frozen to fear

Still I will not budge

For the laughter of kin

Consumed by the abyss
