Steel Grey River

Steel Grey River

Sold for scrap,

The burden of a memory

Sails away in fragments

Down a steel grey river

Onto wharves unknown

Set adrift before its wealth

Can shine through at first light

Before I’m taken along

On its winding voyage

Farewell at last

To that barge of old bones

Fated to be remade

In the image of a stranger

To be swept away in time

On another rogue tide

Toward annihilation

And the fires of rebirth
