Refrain of the Escape Artist

Image

When we’ve left our troubles for dead
Parting from the mantra
That spirals within our heads

Scream rejuvenation!
Stern with passion
Away from the silent niche
Of what’s lively and in fashion

When we’ve left our sorrows to hang
Adrift and restored
From the ports that bayed and sang

A lumbering welcome
Shall creep from the tamest shores
With glittering white stones of liberation
That weep at our looming oars

When we’ve left our tribulations shattered
Coated by the hailing elements
Far away, shambled and battered

Reveries anew
Shall prevail over mounds of anguish
Their steepest inclines to ail
Their rolling flames extinguished
