Empty Trinkets

Image

Every pointless trinket
Diminishes my frame
Shrinking to the obscure
I am confined
To my rusted brig of dismay

I fill my sacred ground
With trivial conquests
Hollow offerings
To embolden my stature
To be hailed
As an echo
Heard by all

Little by little
I shrink with despair
Adrift in loneliness
In each idle second surpassed

Overdone and overflowing
I am drawn to secluded depths
Piling on
More and more
Until I gurgle
Floundering with panic

May I succumb
Finally sustained
Brimmed with tranquility
As I peacefully
Inch and withdraw
