The Young Heart’s Tyranny

Image

Young heartache
Tussles beneath my ribs
A dull ache
So weightless
Fleeting and hollow

Torment’s true mass
Lies far, far beyond
Lingering with angst
Plotting a crude and vicious end

Age shall erode
My juvenile schemes
My thoughtless horizons
Maimed with passing time

Broad seas of old
Shall swiftly narrow
And currents tamed
Into shallow desolation

Into stagnant waters
Far from young misery
From the weightless tyranny
I’ll crave each passing day

This is powerful writing. It’s tight, concise, to the point. I identify with some of its anxieties. A very effective picture too. There’s layers to the anguish, from the inward looking to a view encompassing a society. It makes me think of generation after generation of humans taking over from their predecessors. And all the countless people along the way who hurt for their lost youths, their wasted time, the efforts they didn’t give. Soon to become a lost page of a history book. And the cycle, that’ll just keep on going.
TL;DR: great work, I look forward to seeing more. 🙂
