Wearing Through the Ground

Wearing Through the Ground

It begins with enormous dreams
And altered streams, running neon-colored
Through a mind at bay

Until time is lost
The world comes and it goes
In short maddening bursts

Idle time breeds waves, rolling rabid through the mind
Until it cracks and it gives
Beneath the weight of this life

All you have are your precious pet-words
The same narrowing paths
Whirling ‘round and around
Into a life-long trench

Where you’ll circle away
And dig deeper down
As the silent world peers
Perched on high, in sorrowful judgment
