A Lingering Prayer

A Lingering Prayer

Locked away

In my mother’s prayerful stare

The one I’ve worn since birth

A heavy silence falls

As tragic binds melt and run

~

They pool around my ankles

Spilling down through the gutters

To quench the kindred thirst

Of some far away dreamer

~

I surrender every lie

Hissed out of alleyways

I surrender cold truths

Forged for me in bruised hands

~

Locked forever in her stare

My shattered bones will mend

Until the day I glance away

Crawling

Calling
