Diverge and Defy

Image

The scourge of promise
Scales the walls of my conscience
Ushered to repent
With meek resolve
I cower and vent

I rave in torrents
Gushing my barred disdain
With mountainous veins
Agitated and throbbing
A veil of rage
For the obscured fit of sobbing

I shy away
From earnest wants
Primal needs
And all honest desires
Within me

The boyish weakling
Lingers beneath my hide
Wrangled by family
And all-seeing giants

I am coddled
Beneath their sheets of falling dismay
Ever regretful
In bottomless hours of contempt

The spark abides
Drained by the sullen earth
Where names are bartered
Gambled and sold
Taken from the valiant
The clever, stoic and bold

The clarity
The hunger
Peters out and subsides
And we all fall sustained
in crisp, constant complacence

Eager to pacify
Those trapped beyond us
Yearning to oppose
Diverge, divide and defy
